Chapter 6 contains the well-loved story of Daniel and the lion's den. Learning of the king's plan to grant Daniel authority over the whole kingdom, the administrators and satraps tried to find an accusation against him. Finding nothing, they enticed the king to establish an irrevocable decree forbidding prayer to any god or man other than the king. Failure to comply would result in being thrown to a den of lions. In his regular time of prayer to God, Daniel was apprehended and the king reluctantly carried out the sentence. God, however, shut the lions' mouths, sparing Daniel. The next morning the king gave orders for Daniel to be lifted out and replaced with Daniel's enemies (and their families) to their death, who were immediately killed. Daniel was over 80 years old when these events occurred.
